Investment management in Marin County, CA

Aspirean Wealth manages investment portfolios for individuals and families across Marin County, San Rafael, and the greater Bay Area, from our office in Mill Valley. Portfolio management is not a standalone product here — it sits under one coordinated team, alongside financial planning, tax strategy, and estate coordination.

How we build portfolios

Evidence-based construction

We build portfolios on decades of peer-reviewed academic research, supported by our partnership with Focus Financial. In practice that means broad diversification across asset classes, low turnover, and an allocation you can hold through a full market cycle. We do not time the market, and we do not rearrange a portfolio around the headline of the week.

Tax-aware implementation

Where a holding sits matters as much as what it is. We locate assets across your taxable and retirement accounts with their tax treatment in mind, harvest losses when the market offers the opportunity, and coordinate trades with the tax plan. Because our team includes CFP® and CPA professionals in-house, your portfolio and your return are one conversation rather than two.

Rebalancing and concentration

We rebalance on drift bands rather than out of calendar habit: when an allocation moves far enough from its target, we act, and when it has not, we leave it alone. If your wealth is concentrated in company stock, we stage the diversification over time, coordinated with your vesting schedule, your employer’s trading windows, and the tax year, so the position comes down on a schedule you set in advance.

Where your assets are held

Your accounts are custodied at Charles Schwab and Fidelity, opened in your name. Aspirean does not take custody of client assets: the accounts are yours, held at the custodian, and we manage the portfolio inside them. Statements come from the custodian rather than from us, so our work can be checked against an independent record at any time. Sustainable and ESG-aligned strategies are available for clients who want their portfolio to reflect their values.

What we do not do

We are generally skeptical of speculative products such as hedge funds and private equity as a default recommendation, though alternatives can play a selective, minority role for the most complex, highest-net-worth clients. We sell no proprietary products and we take no commissions. As a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor and a fiduciary, we are paid a percentage of the assets we manage, by the clients we serve and by no one else.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a minimum asset level?

Yes. We best serve individuals with at least $1 million in investable assets, including 401(k) plan assets, or more complex financial situations. Our minimum annual fee is $7,500 for clients below that threshold.

How are you compensated?

We are a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor and a fiduciary, paid via a percentage of the assets we manage.

Who holds my money?

Charles Schwab and Fidelity do. Your accounts are opened in your name and stay there, and Aspirean does not take custody of them. We manage the portfolio and place trades inside those accounts; the assets themselves stay with the custodian. Statements come from the custodian rather than from us, so you can see every position and every transaction for yourself.
